Today, PM Narendra Modi shocked the nation when he announced that ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes will not be considered legal, effective midnight.

The government has announced that there will be new ₹500 notes, and the introduction of a ₹2,000 note. This decision has been made in an effort to curb the rise of corruption and black money in the country. All holding Indian currency will be have to exchange their notes before December 30, 2016.
